Overview

The City of Manchester participates in a State of Tennessee program that may assist with property taxes of the elderly, disabled, and disabled veterans

Eligibility

  • To qualify for state property tax relief, you must own your home and use it as your primary residence.  In addition, the following is required:

Elderly and Disabled Homeowner:

  • Elderly homeowner will be age 65 or older by December 31 of the current year (exception-disabled Veterans).
  • Disabled homeowner will be totally and permanently disabled by December 31 of the current year.
  • Your combined income from all sources does not exceed the State limits set annually.  (Income includes that of applicant, spouse, and all owners of the property.  For disabled Veterans or surviving spouses of a veteran, there is no income limit.)

Disabled Veteran Homeowner:

  • You are rated totally and permanently disabled from a service-connected disability by December 31 of the current year.
  • Must have a service-connected disability which resulted in paraplegia or permanent paralysis of both legs and lower body resulting from traumatic injury or disease to the spinal cord or brain; or loss, or loss of use, of two or more limbs, or legal blindness.
  • Must have a 100% total and permanent disability rating from being a prisoner of war.
  • You are a surviving spouse of a disabled veteran that could otherwise.

NOTE:  There is no income or age requirement for a qualified disabled veteran or a qualified surviving spouse of a disabled veteran.

The deadline for Property Tax Relief applications is 35 days after tax delinquency date. The applications can be turned in at the Tax Collections Office inside City Hall at 200 W. Fort St. Manchester, TN 37355.
